The state of confusion in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
Earlier this week, a campaign flier of Fatawu Sumaila contesting for the position of Women’s organizer started making rounds on social media. Seeing a campaign flier on Facebook or Twitter isn’t much of a big deal. However, this flier received lots of hilarious reactions from Netizen because Fatawu is a male contesting against women for the position of Women’s Organizer.
It appears that his decision to contest for the position was to break the stereotype of women running that office since time immemorial.
Speaking to Bolgatanga based A1 radio and monitored by citizenkwame.com, he said that “I contested the position because women can contest any position of the party. But I have never seen men contesting the Women Organizer position. Moreover, that position is not only meant for women, but men can contest it as well,”
The controversial Women’s organizer aspirant couldn’t stand the pressure and mockery any longer so he decided to make a sudden U-turn. He announced that he will no longer be contesting this year.
It can be recalled that back in 2018, he appeared on the ballot contesting against four women for the same position. According to the grassroots politician, he became more popular afterwards even though he didn’t win. He sought to break the gender bias by contesting for Women’s organizer position.
The NPP is going to hold its annual constituency delegates congress from tomorrow, the 28th of April to the 4th of May.
